Baton Invisible

Feeling a little blue lately (and not the good kind of blue that the senate is currently feeling, thank god). I have made some headway in at least one class, catching up. Today, I need to work my figurative balls off and create some bullshit for creative writing class, in which I am abominably behind.

Last week was a bit of a blur. I've been a bit of a date whore lately... I even double-booked one night! It seems the only people I've met in my classes who want to spend any time with me are young men who want to take me out to drink coffee or play pool or watch a movie. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose. I feel bad for all of them, though, if they think they're getting anywhere with me. I might as well wear a sandwich sign around my neck that says, "Emotionally Unavailable!" on the front and "Ask me about my Friends-With-Benefits option!" on the back. Of course, I'm lonely and horny, as most 20-year-old ladies are... but I'm also completely done with romance for a little while, at least. I'm quite sure I've built up a temporary immunity to it, derived from months of expecting it and being starved of it.

I'm trying to raise my standards without being too horrible a person. New Guy #1 is the pseudo-wealthy enterprizing son of a couple of criminal investigators. He has his own used cell phone business and pulls in about $200 a week doing practically nothing. He wears designer clothing, and has recently lost 50 pounds over a period of several months. To give you more ideas about his personality, I know all of that about him, and he knows next to nothing about me -- and every time I do happen to mention something about myself, he replies with something along the lines of, "Oh, you're that kind of girl, huh?". He seems to love to listen to himself talk about... himself. New Guy #2 is a shy, pudgy 26-year-old working on his second bachelor's degree. He lives with his younger brother and another roommate in a small apartment just south of Budget Liquor. He's very much into Japanese culture. He's very easy to talk to, and he has a quaint, harmless sense of humor. Not sure if I have any desire whatsoever to jump his bones, though. New Guy #3... Well, I wish that dude would just fuck off, but I don't really want to get into that.

Zhora called me at four in the morning yesterday. He was very drunk, headed back from a strip club with one of the cooks from his work. He was driving down Main Street and was concerned that he was going to get pulled over since he couldn't keep his car going without swerving continuously. I was concerned he was going to roll that damn Beamer, killing himself and his passenger. I got out of bed, got dressed, armed myself with my license and headed downstairs. This is the first time Zhora had called me in over a week, and there I was, driving his belligerent ass home in that warhorse of a car he has that needs serious work on the tire alignment and the brakes.

Sigh. What can I say? I am weak.

Nightmare Weekend

So, this weekend in Carbondale went pretty well, until Zhora and I left to come back here. Apparently, I was excited about it for nothing -- I thought that he was taking me to visit one of my friends out of the kindness of his heart and a desire to spend time with me. But, no. Apparently, Kiri reminds him of one of his ex-girlfriends who he "still has feelings for" -- and he just wanted to go down there to check her out.

Nice.

Of course, he has no idea that I have any romantic history with Kiri, so that just makes things even more awkward.

Honestly, I'm sad, but I'm not that disappointed or surprised, in retrospect. In relationships, I always tend to be the woman that people are with while they're waiting to find the woman (or man) they want. It's not that Zhora has any interest in Kiri herself per se (seeing as he's only met her twice), but the association is so powerful that he doesn't want to see her again -- it upsets him to look at her and remember his girlfriend from Latvia. How childish and stupid.

I haven't called him since he brought me home. I don't know if I'm waiting for him to call me... I don't know if he will. I don't even know if I want him to, really. I've noticed a slow decline into sadness and feelings of inadequacy since I met him. He's terrible for me and to me, pretty much. He "really likes" me, but I can tell that there's no potential for actual love. I don't know if he's capable of loving anyone right now -- he's so absorbed in his own problems and plans. He says he likes spending time with me because I'm smart, but obviously he still thinks I'm dumber than he is -- he likes trying to pull the wool over my eyes. He doesn't want me to know that he's ashamed to be seen with me. A little while ago, he told his friend, when asked, that he's no longer sleeping with me. That's a lie. Now I know why he makes me sleep by myself when he invites me over to spend the night with him and his roommate shows up.

I'm so exhausted with people in general in any romantic context. I just want to go over to Chad's, enjoy some recreation, and not have to worry about my weight or my skin or if I sound like a complete idiot to this strange foreign guy who honestly doesn't give two shits about me past the fact that I'm something to pass the time with when he's bored. Not even someone -- something. An activity apparently without human feelings and any amount of perception.

I'm left wondering why I've let this guy treat me like garbage for so long.

That's Just So Penile...

I had a productive day and a relaxing night. Elation! I actually went to all of my classes, set up meetings with the professors I needed to, and I think I did well on my Human Sexuality test... Awesomeness! If I just step it up a notch, I'm sure I can salvage my semester at least a little bit!

Around dinner-time, I went downstairs to get something to eat while Teryn was on the phone. Chad called; he, Michael and Lunch Box ended up coming to pick me up. I got a belated birthday gift from Chad that makes me very happy! We just sat around, and I got to have a nice chat with him and Amanda. Chad is going to go to the court house tomorrow to take care of his dad's death certificate, so he'll gain access to what he's inheriting... With a small portion of the money, he's going to get the BMW logo tattooed on his right elbow, but instead of "BMW" it's going to say "DAD". He asked me if I would like to come with him. I felt weirdly honored -- it'll be good practice for me too, since I eventually want a sizeable tattoo on my back. I need to work up my courage. My family seal is rather intricate, and I'm actually torn between that design and a slightly different one -- technically, the Irish clan is a more recent version of the Scottish clan, from which all Armstrongs are descended, so they have a couple of variations on their seal. I'm a fan of the motto, at least, and I think it would be something pretty inspirational and beautiful to have on my body. We'll see if I have the resources/courage to get it in a few years, though.

Anyway, Little Dude picked me up from Chad's, and we went to Steak&Shake to have good talks and eat mediocre food. When he drove me home, he parked and asked me to sit in the car with him for a little while to listen to parts of a new mp3 cd he just burned for himself. I can tell from listening to one of the mixes he made on equipment in Latvia of a few of his favorite songs that he's a talented beat manager.

He asked me to check out prices for hotels in and around Carbondale -- I'm still leaning toward Motel 6 in Marion because of the price... I'm a little bit worried, just because Swedish has rehearsal all day Saturday before her show, so I'm going to have to figure out what Zhora and I can do with our day. I know what I want to do -- go to the university gallery and the museum... but I'm not sure if Zhora would be down for that. There are also apparently some pretty beautiful parks and public gardens down there. Enh, I'll talk to him about it.

Zhora's family is coming to visit in November -- his dad, his mom, and his grandma. His dad is looking for a place to rent over here -- apparently, he's going to be staying in town for six months! I'm so excited for Zhora! I know he's missed his family terribly during the eight months he's been here.

Hm. Sleepy.

Edit: I received postage and pictures from Tim today... I'd better get to work burning CDs!

The Little Man With the Big Plan

"Wouldn't it suck if you had to poop from five places at once?" - T.B.

I've had an adventurous past few days. I'm not doing too well in my classes right now, but I'm working on turning that around; I figure I can at least salvage a C-average semester from this wreck. Shame on me for not having my priorities straight!

Went to a party on Sunday night, late. Bad idea. Bad, bad, bad. Especially since the people who drove here to pick me up were already rather drunk. Damn my conscience.

I had good talks with Little Dude last night -- the little man with the big plan. He's decided not to move to Seattle, and to stay in town for at least a couple more years. I don't know exactly how this is going to affect our relationship... We'll just have to see. I'm still not sure if I'm ready to legitimately date someone, but, as Teryn pointed out, for all intents and purposes, we pretty much are dating.

His big plans include working up to a managerial position at Rosatti's (not as difficult as it sounds, considering he's making the business $1000 a day as a driver). Then he wants to buy some space in downtown Normal and make it into a club! One of his new friends from work is willing to throw in with him, and Zhora has relatives and friends in this country who can give him advice about getting the money for such an endeavor. He's said that he wants to train me as a DJ once he gets some equipment, too!

This weekend, we're heading down to Carbondale to see Swedish -- she's got a show on Saturday, so that should be pretty cool. We'll likely only stay one night, probably at the Motel 6 in Marion. Yay for adventures (especially those that come free of cost for me because of Zhora's traditionalist chivalry-influenced tendencies). W00t.

We were over at his friend West's apartment last night -- that was an evening well-spent, I think. It was nice and mellow; we played some pool (Zhora and I lost, like, five times in a row to West and his girlfriend), and some Foosball, at which West is talented to an almost professional extent. I have to admit that I felt a little trepidatious going over there, just because Zhora mentioned that West is a reformed drug dealer who has done some time. But when we got over there, I was very surprised. He immediately offered Zhora some beer, and then he looked at me and was like, "Can I get you some soda? You don't look twenty-one."

I can't tell you how refreshing it is to be refused alcohol in a private setting. Somehow, that single thing put me completely at ease.

I've actually decided that I don't want to drink alcohol at all, except for the occasional glass of wine. As an intoxicant, it's too volatile and unpredictable, and it has nasty side-effects. So, yeah. It's not as if I have a history of being a particularly rampant boozer, though, so whatever. Not a big deal!

Stalker Fan

Apparently, I have become so delinquent in my movie-rental skillz that the Movie Fan has taken to harrassing my roommate while I'm out. Good thing I didn't give them my cell number. Dang!

Last night was pretty laid-back. I saw Kiri for the first time in months. Teryn and I spent a bit of time with her here at the dorm and then Little Dude and I took her out to Denny's. Right now, her and Paige are hanging out. Apparently, I have to wait until tomorrow to get my piece of the Paige Pie. Such is life, I suppose, when one has out-of-town visitors with too much to do and too many people to see. I'll entertain myself tonight by showering, going to Chad's, and maybe calling Little Dude later, although he'll probably get off work after eleven since he didn't have to go in until four today.

I stayed over at Zhora's last night, surprisingly against my initial will -- I was pretty bone tired last night, but I didn't know if I could come back to the dorm because Erik just got back in town last night and... yeah. Other circumstances arose that also made it impossible for me to go to my dad's to crash as well. Zhora's roommate seemed to be rather uncomfortable with the prospect of me spending the night in the apartment at all, so I ended up sleeping alone in the guest room. I got a queen-sized mattress to myself, but still -- not the ending to the night I had hoped for. Fortunately, Igor had work early this morning, so a little trans-room sneaking was done after that. I ended up sneezing (one of my huge, crazy sneezes) at a completely inopportune time, too. Oh well.

My sneezes sound like this: "HRRGHHRAAAAAAAAAARGH!!" What's startling about them to some people is that there's no lead-up to my bigger sneezes. No "ha" in the "ha-choo". Basically, it's just a huge, wet yell. Igor got home from work earlier than expected because he was tired, so that was awkward...

Ow, Muthertrucker.

I'm going to prequalify this entry by mentioning that I am on a somewhat high prescribed dose of codeine right now. After a day of peeing every three minutes and sundry clinic/hospital visits, the consensus is that I have a serious kidney infection of the unknown variety. In fact, had I waited a day longer to get it treated, I would probably be rendered quite immobile by intense fits of chills, a high fever, and possible seizures. Ick. Anyway, the antibiotics are supposed to be doing their thing, but I have to go see my NP on Tuesday to discuss the lab results of my infected urine sample. Hopefully, it's nothing too serious. Because, damn. I can't afford to miss any more classes than I already have. I'm behind as it is, and haven't really had an excuse for it up until now.

Hung out with Little Dude and Phil tonight, despite excrutiating pain and an even more intense codeine high. I fell asleep while they were playing Soul Calibur II.

I should probably go to bed. I have to get up early tomorrow to write some stuff for my Creative Writing class. I also have to go to the library to get some books on reserve to write a paper. And then I have to practice my balls off for my first Oral Interp performance. I might even print out notes for my Human Sexuality class, if Teryn's printer is now working. It would be sweet if it was.

UUUUUUUUUNITY!

Had a predictable albeit enjoyable night tonight. I ended up not only watching Mrs. Doubtfire (possibly one of the greatest movies of all time), but also seeing Coming To America with Teryn, Zhora, and Phil.

I went downstairs to pick up Phil from his job at about five to eleven. Unfortunately, the xerox machine was going crazy, so he had to placate a few dissatisfied students, and then write up the xerox issue so that a girl could get some money back, so he ended up have to stay a couple minutes later than when he usually closes. Poor guy!

I think I'm turning into a bad influence on poor Zhora -- I've seen him pretty much every night this week, and all of those nights have been pretty late, so he hasn't been getting much sleep between me, his two jobs, and sundry other things. I feel bad because I wanted him to get a good night's sleep tonight since my party is tomorrow -- I don't want him to be all falling asleep during that! But hopefully, he'll have a couple hours between jobs to nap a little bit.

I'm excited for my little party! It won't really be anything but a few people hanging out at Chad's, but still! I'm anxious to see how Amanda is doing with her school stuff, considering she's been working so much. She's been exhausted the past few times I've been over there to visit.

Anyway, I have to get up and do some homework in the morning, so I should probably cut myself short before I get carried away with any more blogging nonsense.

Best Break-Up Songs: Vol. I

I was just having a bit of brainstorming, mixing fun today. It seems that I'm seeing new relationship status updates on Facebook everyday, to the tune of "So-and-so is now single"! All over the place -- people from ISU, people from Truman, et cetera... The mix is a bit of a hodge-podge; there's a little mayhem involved... but it's a mayhem with method, you see? I feel I've covered a broad range of break-up emotions, whether you're the dumper (sad) or the dumpee (sadder)! These feelings have been remarked upon in little notes I've made for each song, sort of to encapsulate all of the different nasty/good feelings surrounding break-ups. So, for all my lonely hearts, and all my free, independent spirits, Marion's Premium Break-Up Mix:

1. Roses - Outkast
[You're a stanky byatch and I wish you'd stop going around pretending you're all that, because, honestly, you're not that fine. And I hope you're trying to put on your make-up in the mirror and crash, crash, CRASH into a ditch. (Just playin')]
2. I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry - Al Green
[I'm so lonesome... uhm, well... Al Green's pretty good at explaining things in his titles, so whatev. Skip this one.]
3. Love Gone Wrong - Lauren Hoffman
[We're over! But I'm still attached! But it's over! But I still love you! But this is bad for me! But... I still love you... gah! I hate you!!]
4. This A Breakup Song - Jamie Radford
[I fucked up and threw away the best thing that ever happened to me. Shit.]
5. Another Woman - Moby
[You've been cheating on me, motherfucker... Or at least you want to! Motherfucker!]
6. L'Amour Perdu - Paul Cargnello
[So much uncertainty! So much doubt! Despair! Lies! Lost love!]
7. For Lovin' Me - Gordon Lightfoot
[Well, it's not my fault you love me... I'm going to go find some more bitches!]
8. Frank's Wild Years - Tom Waits
[Unhappily married. Arson. Yup.]
9. Tonight Was A Disaster - Casiotone For The Painfully Alone
[I was fine, and then I heard that one song... and... and... I just couldn't take it!]
10. Everybody's a Fool Sometimes - Kieran McMahon
[Life is so hard... Everybody has to be stupid. I'm stupid.]
11. Your Beauty Is A Knife I Turn On My Throat - Eagle*Seagull
[God, your existence is so goddamn painful. More doubt. I'm in love, but I'm so goddamn lonely. Worship and greed, baby.]
12. The Hurt - Cat Stevens
[Well, if you wouldn't have hurt me so bad, I'd still be naive enough to love someone like you... so, thanks!]
13. Bye Bye Love - Simon & Garfunkel
[Aw, I'm not good enough for you... You have to go and leave me for someone else! Tear!]
14. Free Fallin' - Tom Petty
[You're a good girl, but honestly... uhm... yeah, this just doesn't work for me... *tires screeching*]
15. Put Me Down - The Cranberries
[I love you, but you make me feel like horseshit, always proving me wrong and putting me down. I can't take this anymore!]
16. I Luv The Valley Oh - Xiu Xiu
[I can't stand your happiness. You're just trying to rub your good fortune in my face, so I hope I manage to break your fucking heart, mutherfucker. Feel the burn!]
17. Love Punch - The Chalets
[First line: "At first you were a dream, but now you're a nightmare!"]
18. I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet) - The White Stripes
[Yeah, you think I'm going to give in to my shitty feelings, but you know what, I eat suffering for breakfast, so fuck you!]

In the past six or so years, I've had intimate experience with the emotions displayed in songs 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, and 18. Has my varied experience taught me anything about how to avoid pain in relationships? Uh, obviously not. But, as I have often been assured, I'm young, and I have lots of love to give, and perhaps more of it to lose.

The mix probably needs a little work. The transitions are fine; the content leaves a lot to be desired. I actually gave all of my best break-up music to Paige months ago, just because most of it was too painful to listen to habitually. I'll have to get most of it back to pad my mix with.

Zhora and Vtalik came over tonight to watch The Gods Must Be Crazy 2. If any of you haven't seen the first movie and its sequel, both come highly recommended from me. The humor takes a little while to get used to, but once you do, it's funny as hell. Little Dude laughed his balls off at certain parts, at least. Only one class tomorrow. Little Dude said that if he can get off work from his first job early, he'll take me out to eat somewhere nice. Sweet.

There's a poetry slam coming up soon -- on my birthday, actually. I'm going to be there, performing a little piece about nerd love -- Rob was kind enough to let me know when to show up to get a slot for the open mic. Maybe, someday, I'll have enough balls to actually compete in a slam! But, for now, I'll play it safe. Anyway, yes... Coffeehouse, 7:30, Tuesday. Be there or be rhomboid.

I'm planning to have a party this weekend at the Trailer Park. If anyone's going to be in town and interested in helping me celebrate my 20th, contact me for directions, and I'll be happy to have you along! Not sure what the events for the evening will be, although I can promise a pretty decent time for all. They have a pool table. It's all good.

You Don't Even Have Good Credit!

It's been a couple of days since I last updated, so I figure it is time. As in, Lion King Rafiki It Is Time, bitches.

Not really a lot of news to report. Teryn and I are taking a trendy new liquid vitamin supplement called Vemma. It is seriously the shit, although it is a little bit expensive. I'm thinking of remarking on my stress-levels and physical well-being with every blog entry I make, just to track how good it is making me feel... because, damn, it seems to be doing its thang pretty well!

I actually think that a lot of college students, especially freshmen, who come from stable three-meals-a-day families feel a lot more stress at school just because they're neglecting their bodies. I'm not really one to talk much about this, since my eating habits are anything but healthy, but you'd be surprised what a little regular supplementation can do.

I got in a mad tickle-fight with Zhora last night, and now my wrists hurt. Part of Little Dude's charm is that he can be ferociously child-like. Did you know that the Russian word for armpit, directly translated, means "under-mouse"? And that the Russian word for "porn movie" sounds conspicuously like the Russian word for armpit? Crazy stuff. I think he was just being goofy and affectionate with me because he upset me earlier by appearing to pick up a girl at Ride the Nine while hanging out with Vtalik and me... but, it turned out that she's just a friend of his. I had Vtalik drive me home because I didn't just want to sit around and sulk, but Zhora called as soon as I got in pretty much and asked to come over. At least I know now that I'm not just being used for sex -- he has to come to me for good tickles, too!

He said that if he doesn't have to work his second job today, he'll come over and nap with me for a little while... He really hasn't been getting enough sleep for these past couple weeks, and he actually makes really good conversation when he's drowsy. Weirdness.

Life is good!

Byaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Edit: What the H! I have this statcounter thing on my sidebar, and I check it periodically. I've got the settings refined enough so that I'm no longer getting indications that random people from Singapore somehow stumble onto this page; I pretty much can recognize every IP/location/visitor path as someone I know, as creepy as that may sound. But there's this ONE PERSON! The IP is 74-134-253-197, and the address shows up as localized somewhere around Louisville, Kentucky. This person visits my blog consistently -- usually around once or twice a day. I'm thinking that since the geo-tracker can be a bit messed up sometimes, that it's probably someone in Southern Illinois -- or someone down there in that direction. Craziness! Who are you, mystery visitor? Seriously!

I Watch The L Word On Showtime... BYAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Feeling good this morning, although I have a test in human sexuality later which I haven't studied for, and a class in an hour that I haven't attended in, like, a week, and am thinking of skipping yet again. Probably shouldn't, though.

Last night was lovely. Little Dude took me out to Steak 'N Shake, where we discussed an assload of stuff... At one point, he was telling me about archaic Russian greetings, and about how much easier it would be for him to read women if they came back in vogue. Later on, we started talking about his perceived understanding that American women don't like forward men, and then he gave me a chaste little kiss good-night... At which point, he informed me of his desire to stay the night. Heh.

Ugh, I'm definitely going to skip that class again, I just know it. All right -- as of next week, no more skipping Creative Writing for me, no matter how dire the circumstances. I can't afford to fail an English class, no siree bob.

Do you ever get the urge to just give up on your current longterm plans? Like, not necessarily letting a dream die -- just taking a good, long look at what you've been planning to do with your life in the next five or ten years and saying, "Fuck it. Time for Plan B." And I don't just mean when you've fucked up and realized you might be pregnant, either (if that's the case, I should inform you that you'll need a prescription from your physician for Plan B until 2007 -- sorry!).

Seriously, though, part of me just wants to drop out, get a low-paying job -- maybe I could host again, or even serve. Maybe I could work at Subway, or at a Wal-Mart. There's just something so alluring about not having to worry about work outside the context of work, whereas school-related worries permeate my entire existence at this point. Honestly, it can't be that difficult to just live. I can get a job, get a small place, get a shitty little car... These are all things that I kind of actually want over the doubtful promise of financial security looming a decade or so in the future.

But will I feel like a sell-out? Will I find myself in an environment wherein I constantly feel surrounded by idiots and come to hate myself for IQ-based prejudices that I might not be able to help, having been the proud first human production of a couple of high-achieving college graduates?

Ech, I don't really know what's going on with my head lately. I'm so completely complacent in regard to school at the moment, that I consider having had a number of orgasms last night to be good and fine studying for my first Human Sexuality exam. Yes, I know the advantages and drawbacks of the missionary position; yes, I understand the societal pressures telling me that sex isn't good unless I work to achieve orgasm in both myself and my partner, preferably simultaneously; yes, I understand the male and female cycles of arousal. For some reason, I also know that most people begin fondling their genitals for pleasure as early as infancy! Right now, though, the knowledge that seems most important is that I'm wrapped up in a blanket that smells like cologne and erect penis, which means it's time to spend $3.00 of my hard-earned summer money to make it smell like artificial spring again.

Zhora and I almost went to Hooters last night, but it was closed. I would say that I agreed to go purely out of morbid curiosity, having never been before, but honestly, I wouldn't have minded seeing some nice perky tatas in some cute little shirts, or some nice perky butts in some cute little shorts. Does this make me somewhat chauvenistic? I sure sound like a narrrsty old letch. It's just that, when I'm looking for good company, I look for good company; sometimes I just want to see some great T&A, you know? Zhora has no butt; it makes me value more the time in my personal history during which I had a nice, plump one to nap on. Le Sigh.

Since Zhora and I ended up at Steak 'N Shake last night instead of Hooters, I contented myself by flirting outrageously with our waitress -- a shapely, accentless Indian girl who called me variations of "honey", "sweetheart", and "ma'am" for the hour Zhora and I loitered around with our meager food orders. I certainly wasn't putting on a show for him by any means, but I was at least satisfied that he didn't seem to mind my eyes taking in some demurely clothed, small and meaty breasts. Made me hungry enough to devour a Crisco melt!

See, Roses Really Smell Like Poo-Poo-Poo...

The past two nights have been a bit of the same-old, same-old routine. The night before last, I ended up at Zhora's watching him and Vtalik try to fix a belt tensioner pulley that had snapped off during Little Dude's delivery work (that poor BMW), and then we watched V for Vendetta and visited with Zhora's roommates Igor and Oxana. I've decided that they're both really cool. Oxana is incredibly bright and attentive, and Igor is very talkative and personable. He wanted to hear all about my time in Germany and discuss my classes with me, and tell me all about his unorthodox upbringing in Russia. Very cool.

Last night, Vtalik, Zhora, and I played pool at Ride the Nine for the first time in what feels like a long while, but has probably only been about two weeks. I actually held my own this time! In fact, I beat Zhora at nine-ball three times, even though he kept trying to smack my butt with his cue every time I took a shot, silly guy. He also seemed pretty interested in playing with my hair last night, which was a little strange, because I'm not used to someone's fingers sliding through my thick, glossy mane in public. Something about it just seems a little too... Hmm, I don't want to say erotic, because that's taking it too far, but intimate at least -- for a public setting, that is. I'm not going to pretend I didn't enjoy it, even though he messed up my ponytail something awful.

Tonight, I'm heading to a poetry slam at the Coffeehouse with Teryn and Alyssa. I got invited by my new friend Rob... This reminds me that I have to finish burning a mix CD for him and downloading some of the music he was telling me about so that we can talk about it at some point. I always love discussing music that my friends are passionate about; it makes it a lot easier for me to like a lot of different things, and I tend to pride myself on having a rather broad musical taste (although I would hardly call it indiscriminate).

Other than that, not much is going on. Kerry just stopped in for about an hour to say hello; it's the first time Teryn and I have seen her all semester! Hopefully, we will see more of her soon. She invited us to see a gallery opening at Wesleyan tonight, but unfortunately we already have the Coffeehouse plans... but I'm sure we'll get out and do something cool sometime soon!

I continue to get extremely weird, semi-vicious comments on Facebook from Kiri, but I think it's just because she's going through a hard time right now and needs someone she doesn't really care about to lash out on. That'll teach me to make snide comments about StalkerBook's ability to give me somewhat personal relationship information about people I haven't really interacted with in a good number of months!

I Was Born To Spit It Til You Git It and Express Myself

It must be getting pretty close to the full moon round hurr. I had a beautiful and eventful day yesterday. Teryn and I spent a lot of time at the Coffeehouse earlier in the day. We met a cool guitar-player named Rob who has traveled around Mississippi and likes to finger-pick the blues. He had a lot of nice things to say to us. We exchanged phone numbers and I'm in the process of organizing a few mix CDs for him.

Teryn and I went to both the Transpace gallery and the University Gallery opening. We saw some beautiful pieces by one Fay Lee at the latter opening -- they were done on lots of grid paper. The pieces were kind of like massive, complex tapestry-esque connect-the-dots... and when Teryn and I got close to look at the work, we noticed that it had all been done free-hand! We were astonished! At the Transpace gallery, we saw a very cool photo series about furniture in very regional, rustic landscapes by a photographer named Jacob DeGeal. Both Teryn and I especially liked the unsanded table sitting in a dormant corn field, although the larger print we saw of the picture that is currently his myspace profile image is also very cool. Furniture in nature: Totally sweet.

We were going to head to the Olivia Newton John Wayne Newton show, but we met Phil on the way, and we hadn't been that excited to donate to a "benefit" concert that was all about sending the lead singer's crush away to LA. Lame! So, instead of going to the Coffeehouse for a second time, we came back up to the room to hang out with Philtron. I drew a picture of two flowers having sex, flower-style, and Phil came up with a haiku for it. The haiku goes like this:

Flowers having sex
Quite indiscriminately:
Watch as they get off!

I also attempted to do a semi-accurate rendering of Phil's sarcastic right eye, but it didn't really work out too well, because I'm not an artist. But I am happy to have a sketchbook, though. I bought it at the Alamo II yesterday with Teryn.

Full moon related behavior included but was not limited to Chrissy deciding one day after she was thinking of breaking up with her boyfriend that she is now going to perhaps marry him for his green card (but next summer would be the earliest it would happen, donchaknow). I had myself a little freak-out, just because I'm so against the idea of marriage in general, but especially for people my age or younger, and especially for reasons that don't take into account the emotional and financial costs of marriage and divorce. Marriage is an outdated and over-socialized originally religious farce, in my opinion. I personally will never marry, and although Chrissy agrees with a lot of my views on marriage, she thinks that exploiting it doesn't make a difference. Because, you know, using a social construct that you don't believe in for your own twisted purposes, thereby corrupting it even more than it already is... Since when is there anything wrong with that?

Alyssa needs to call that child and have a little chat with her, methinks.

Speaking of Alyssa, she came over last night. Her and I flew the coup and went to Chad's to hang out. Amanda ended up whupping Chad's ASS in a Halo 2 tournament. It was a good thing to witness. I got to see Michael as well, although Lunch Box was suspiciously absent. Amanda was wearing a very interesting and gorgeous shirt. She's so svelte that even a potato sack would look good on her, though.

Tonight, I'm going over to Alyssa's house to help her babysit her brother and his little friends. We are going to go on a sunset picnic. It'll be sweet as hell.

Little Dude and I have to return some DVDs in the next couple days. I keep wondering how long it's going to take him to request that we rent "Blast from the Past" again. Seriously, he almost pees every time he even thinks about that movie for too long.

Late last night was pretty cool. Alyssa left after watching a very cool movie called Kinky Boots with Teryn and myself, then Teryn and I stayed up late. We were both a little tired, so we got a little delirious, and we made fun of each other, because I was trying to hold a conversation with her and have a few online at the same time, and things got a bit confusing and funny. I had a very decent sleep, and I'm full with tasty waffle.

Hurray, weekend!

Fortified With These Essential Vitamins

Yesterday was a bit topsy-turvy. Teryn is engaged in an epic battle of heroic scale against her parents -- regarding a certain Chicago issue. Well, actually, that's a bit of a stretch. I think she's just a little disappointed that she isn't allowed to go, and yet she somehow still manages to understand where her parents are coming from. My opinion? Teryn's parents don't know how good they have it, and restricting her at this point just seems... well... pointless.

Anyway.

Saw Zhora again last night, albeit only briefly. He drove me to Vtalik's to give him the CDs I made for him. Vtalik was very pleased. Zhora gave me some garlic bread. We sat and talked and smoked for about ten minutes, and Zhora told me about this one time, during the full moon, when he sleep-walked.

On the way back, he asked me if I was sad. I said that I wasn't, which is true, but he didn't seem very convinced. He said, "You look sad."

How unnerving. Since when does Little Dude concern himself with the way I feel? Just short weeks ago, he let me cry for ninety miles without uttering so much as a word of comfort, and now, all of a sudden, he's wondering if I'm 'sad'? Crazy kid.

I woke up to a gigantic mea culpa on Facebook this morning. Sucks to be the founder of that thing right now, I'll tell you. I have to say, though, that I agree at least partially with the masses. Of course, there are some things that Facebook is useful for, like alerting me to my ex's recent relationship status change. But I really don't need to know that Mike Brown just removed "Family Guy" from his favorite TV shows, you know? If Facebook wants to turn itself into the greatest, biggest gossip tool ever, then it needs to limit its feed to relevant fields. I want to see messages like, "Liesl Pereira totally just denied a friendship request from Marion!". See, that's juicy... although it didn't happen; I'm actually quite happily bonded through Facebook with young Liesl.

Hopefully, Facebook gets the point now. It's not that I'm not interested in invading my growing network's privacy and finding out about all the juicy stuff going on in their lives... Because, dude... Totally saves time! There are just some things that nobody in their right mind gives a damn about.

This Sentence Will Ruin Your Life!

I had a very relaxing night. As it turned out, Zhora didn't really want to fix anything on his car, but he did want my help with picking out a receiver for it. He ended up reluctantly opting for a Dual; I'm not sure if I approve, but it does look pretty pimp.

We had a bit of fun joy-riding around between the dorms, Vtalik's shop, and Phil's house. Phil still owes me money, and I'm starting to worry, since he said he'd have it Tuesday, and he hasn't called... He wasn't there and he wasn't answering his phone when Zhora and I went over last night. We hung out with his roommate for a few minutes and watched MythBusters.

He dropped me off after taking me to Vtalik's shop again to retrieve his jacket and my bag, both of which I had forgotten. Ah, that reminds me! Good quotes:

Marion: Man, I'm so forgetful. Sorry about that.
Zhora: Don't worry about it. I'm forgive-ful.

My responsibility today is to make Vtalik a gigantic mp3 cd for his listening pleasure. He's got to head to Chicago this weekend for class, so he needs it soon.

You know what rocks? The Fourth Amendment.
