Long time, no update: big surprise.
The past few weeks have been a little hectic. I secured a campus job at Burger King over in the Bone; so far, I've worked three shifts. The smell of the place is awful and it doesn't come out of my hair for hours afterward, but the work itself is reassuringly repetitive. At this point, I at least don't feel like I'm completely useless at it. Unfortunately, I won't get paid until Thursday next week -- I'm sure by the time the money actually comes through, it will all be spoken for.
I had my first test of the semester last week, and I didn't do as well as I had hoped I would do (or really as well as I deserved, come to think of it). I'm sure I'm one of a handful of students in my math class who actually
do all of the suggested homework problems in a timely manner, and I still only managed a 65% on the test, despite studying a great deal. The frustrating thing about it is that I could have gotten a much better grade, had I actually had time to finish the test. Lecture-hall-sized math courses might become a considerable existential bane for your humble. It doesn't matter that I do all of the homework, because it's not handed in for a grade. The only thing that will speak for me are the tests, labs, and quizzes; I will not only have to learn how to do things correctly, but will probably have to improve my efficiency and speed by 200 percent. I suppose I could be more concerned; I've got an A-average on the labs so far.
Other than math, classes are going relatively well. I'm especially enjoying American Lit and Semantics, and I'm doing pretty well keeping on top of things.
I've been hanging out with Dan a lot lately. He's a good guy; not as assertive as he should be, but genial and intelligent.
Well, that's it, that's all for now.

Good to read your words Marion. For some reason, as a student, I really blew off my math courses. Kimberly is good at all that, but not very fast so she would have happen to her what happens to you, run out of time even though you are solving the problems. What is it with this culture needing everything to be fast? Einstein was a slow processor when he was in school. Hang in there, though, and that stuff will get better.
I'm glad you are working though it is one of those jobs. But cashflow is important and the rest of the world respects the idea that you would do something positive about it. But money is always gone before it arrives. That's my experience, anyway. Even savings are usually accounted for (kids college, retirement, vacation, something). What's important is something in the pipeline.
You sound good and engaged in the hard business of living. Take care.
